MIS Report
A two tier multi functional MIS Report, tailor made for the Kochi Unit had been implemented since 1993. It consists of computer generated Exception Report and Control Reports’
Pre-defined exception boundaries are applied to sieve out critical information from the data drawn from all the departments. Parameters like specific raw material consumption, Manpower productivity, Marketing productivity, Energy Index, Downtime, Delay in office processes, safety and quality standards etc. are being monitored. y-o-y/m-o-m comparisons are made, depending on the nature of the parameters. Certain parameters are subjected to seasonal comparison also.
The follow up activity on the control report is conducted at unit level and that on the exception report by the corporate office; The feedback is conveyed to the respective departments, to complete the information cycle.
MIS report is made available on the network nodes of each department. The MIS facilitates effective monitoring and continual improvement in the performance of the unit.

B.	Networking and Integrated Software
HOC Kochi unit initiated the IT activities in the mid eighties by utilising. the ‘Net Pack‘ Project Management software of IDL, UK during the construction
stage
On commissioning of the plants in Kochi, all the core business activities were
linked through an RDBMS based integrated software to enable on-line processing . Right now, a campus wide Local Area Network (LAN) supported by Optical Fibre Cable at the back bone, facilitates the deployment of the integrated software. The major functions of the on-line software are as below

Payroll and related reports
Attendance reports and inputs to payroll
Personnel Information System
On-line generation of delivery chalans, invoices and sales accounting
On-line generation of enquiries, purchase orders and purchase management information
On-line generation and valuation of MRV, inventory control and other stores management functions
Raw materials and finished products monitoring
PF accounting
Production information System
Interface of plant DCS with the LAN with a facility of data retrieval upto 5 minutes interval
On-line generation and transmission of quality control reports
Electrical and instrumentation information system
Financial accounting and related reports
Overall MIS report consisting of control report and exception report
The facility for down loading data from the distributed control system(DCS) which controls the plant operations are also available. As a result, the plant mimics is made available to selected nodes
The work force had been transformed into an IT savvy group, by imparting IT training periodically in a structured manner.
The software had been refined further, incorporating the suggestions made by the I.T. audit team, deputed by the Government of India

Distributed Control System

Plant operations in Kochi Unit is done with Distributed Control System, a class of latest state of art. Availability of Data in memory helps in decision making compared to the earlier conventional Control System.
The tank monitoring system gives the detailed stock of raw materials finished products and Intermediate products.
Automatic drum filling of phenol and automatic carboy filling of Hydrogen Peroxide gives accurate weighment.
The Distributed Control System is also used to dump process data into the management information System network ,enabling the concerned managers to view the plant conditions in pictorial form
